Rocky Point has been a beach vacation spot for 50 years but has become very popular in recent years with improvement of the town and ever-expanding number of hotels, restaurants, resorts and unique shops.

Rocky Point is in a free zone; no visas or special immunizations are required. Border officials conduct routine spot checks of vehicles entering Mexico. Mexico auto insurance is recommended and is available at insurance agencies in Phoenix, Tucson, Ajo, and Lukeville. Mexican gasoline is sold (in liters) at Pemex stations and is fine for American cars. It's not necessary to convert your dollars into pesos since virtually all businesses use U.S. dollars.

Puerto Peñasco has beautiful beaches open to the public. The best swimming is from May through October. Boating, sunbathing and water sports are the popular activities. Shopping is plentiful. There are grocery stores, fruit stands, hardware stores, and of course, lots of curio shops.

CEDO

The Intercultural Center for the Study of Deserts and Oceans, is an independent non-profit organization located in Puerto Peñasco, Sonora. CEDO is dedicated to the education, investigation, and conservation of the natural resources of the upper Gulf of California and surrounding Sonoran Desert.

And, the CEDO Center is in Las Conchas, just a short walk down the beach from our house.

CRUISING

Come aboard the newest and most modern 100 passengers yacht in Rocky Point. Experience the Sea of Cortez in style. Enjoy the scenic coastal view of Rocky Point. You can see dolphins, sea lions and other marine life. The 124 foot Intrepid yacht was built and launched in Rocky Point in 1998 and made ready for passenger comfort in March 2002. She is powered by twin 1200 HP diesel engines and has state-of the art safety and navigational systems.

SUNSET CRUISES

• Departs daily at 6:00pm from Rocky Point harbor
• Returns to Rocky Point harbor at 8:00pm

DINNER CRUISE
